MacBook Pro A1707 (2016/2017) Screen Replacement Guide

Hi, Simon here. Today I’m going to walk you through a screen replacement for the MacBook Pro 15-inch model A1707, which is applicable to both 2016 and 2017 models. If you have the MacBook Pro with a Touch Bar, this guide should be suitable for your device.

Tools and Parts Needed

• Plastic and metal prying tools
• Pentalobe screwdriver (0.8 Torx)
• Torx screwdrivers: T3, T4, T5, T8
• Replacement LCD screen (link in the description)

Steps for Screen Replacement

1. Preparing the MacBook Pro

• Ensure the MacBook is powered off.
• Remove the screws from the back cover using the Pentalobe screwdriver. There are four screws at the top and four at the bottom.

2. Accessing the Internal Components

• Carefully lift the back cover using a prying tool.
• Disconnect the battery by sliding out the connector.

3. Removing the Screen Components

• Use a T3 screwdriver to remove the screws securing the screen connectors and brackets.
• Carefully disconnect the LCD cable and Wi-Fi antennas using a plastic prying tool.
• Remove the Wi-Fi antenna and LCD board screws using a T4 screwdriver.
• Use a T5 screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the LCD board.
• Remove the Wi-Fi antenna screws with a 0.8 Torx screwdriver.

4. Removing the Old Screen

• Use a T8 screwdriver to remove the screws from the screen hinges (three on each side).
• Carefully slide out the old screen.

5. Installing the New Screen

• Align the new screen and slide its hinges into place.
• Secure the hinges with the T8 screws.
• Ensure the LCD cable and Wi-Fi antennas are positioned correctly above the motherboard.

6. Reconnecting Components

• Reattach the LCD cable and secure it with the bracket.
• Reconnect the Wi-Fi antennas and secure them with screws.
• Reconnect the battery and replace the protective plastic cover.

7. Finalizing the Installation

• Place the back cover, align it properly, and replace all screws.
• Power on the MacBook to test the new screen.
